Senate Bill 1063 requires that a one half credit class, Personal Financial Literacy and Economics, be offered to students as an alternative to the traditional Economics for graduation. This new course is equivalent to the traditional Economics class and both fulfill graduation requirements. The course begins in the 2022-2023 school year. Districts will choose from a list of free open source curricula provided by TEA. Students will have the option to take Economics or Personal Financial Literacy and Economics in the same way they choose whether to take World Geography or World History. Academic Assistant Principals should complete the New Course Request form in preparation for 2022-2023 BISD course offerings.
