The Academy at Nola Dunn Library

It’s Fall and time for our 9th annual Pumpkin/Gourd Book Character Contest. Each entry must dress/decorate a pumpkin or gourd as their favorite book character and create a poem about their character to go with it. Pumpkins and gourds must be in good condition with no cuts (or better yet…use a faux pumpkin). Each entry name will be put in a drawing for prizes. Two winners will be drawn for each grade level. All entries must be in the library with the information below (name, teacher, grade and poem), between October 30 & 31 (no earlier than that please due to pumpkin leakage and deterioration). Winners will be announced on Friday, November 2nd. All entries must be removed by Friday, November 2nd.

K-1st grade: 3 word poem, can be name, color, and shape.

Example: Elmo, Red, Fuzzy.

2nd-3rd grade: 3 line -5 line poem.

Example: Little Red Riding Hood,

Goes through the forest alone

Before the Wolf she stood,

Scared, she grabbed her phone.

4th-5th grade: 5 lines or more, can be an acrostic, ABC poem, limerick, etc.

Example: (Harry Potter)

The ROLLING READER was open on September 7th for students to bring a book, take a book! We had our busiest trading morning EVER!!! Our next ROLLING READER will be on September 28th from 7:15 a.m. - 7:35 a.m.

WE HAD 143 BURLESON PUBLIC LIBRARY CARDS DISTRIBUTED ON CURRICULUM NIGHT!!! WOW!!! If your child didn't get one, please visit the BPL and they can help you! (They're FREE and you only need a drivers license to fill out the application!!)

Parents! Bring you driver's license to Curriculum Night on Thursday! We want 100% of our students to have a Burleson Public LIbrary card! Sign ups will be in our foyer before and after Curriculum Night! They are FREE to all BISD students!

Family Night is March 1st from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm.

Students must have 5 Bluebonnet books submitted by bedtime, January 26th.
