Welcome to 1st Grade!

Hello! My name is Carrie Sellers and I am so excited to be teaching 1st grade this year! I grew up in Southern California in a family of educators. Since the time I was little, I wanted to be an elementary school teacher. After graduating from Point Loma University with a degree in liberal studies with a concentration in biology, I received my teaching credential through Cal State University and taught kindergarten and 4th grade in Southern California at a science magnet school. When my daughter was born, I had the opportunity to begin writing science and social studies curriculum from home. In 2000, we moved to Washington and have been on Bainbridge Island for 19 years. My husband, Dave, and I have four children; Emma (23), Eli (21), Grace (18), and Isaac (16). Emma is currently doing half of her student teaching in Northern California and then will leave in October to finish up her program in South Africa. Eli is a senior at UW majoring in statistics and data science. We just dropped Grace off at Biola University in LA where she is pursuing business and graphic design. Isaac is a junior at BHS and you can watch him play wide receiver for the Spartans' football team. I started working for BISD as a substitute in 2019 and have loved getting back into the classroom. Last year I spent time working in the ILC, job sharing with Ms. Claiborne in 1st grade and teaching 3rd grade for a four month leave of absence. I am thrilled to be here full time this year and keep pinching myself to see if this is real. I look forward to this year getting to know your students and learning with them. This is truly my dream job! Please let me know if you ever have any questions or concerns. You can reach me at csellers@bisd303.org
