In grade 4, we use PHONICS for Reading and/or REWARDS along with supplemental materials for fluency and comprehension.
Each PHONICS for Reading lesson uses a systematic sequence of explicit phonics instruction, providing a consistent routine that allows students to apply each concept in increasingly challenging situations to build accuracy, automaticity, and fluency. Each evening, your child should read the day's lesson aloud twice and the lesson's word list once. To extend learning, have your child spell the words from the list.
REWARDS teaches students a flexible strategy for decoding grade-level multisyllabic words, increases their oral and silent reading rate (fluency), expands their knowledge of vocabulary, and allows students to gain confidence in their reading ability.
