Vela MS Book Club

Welcome to Book Club!!!

Introduction

In this club, you will be reading novels throughout the year which will hopefully continue to fuel your passion for reading. It is our hope that these books will provoke thoughts and insights which will lead to deeper understanding of the novels, while also helping you learn how to analyze literature more deeply. Throughout the year, we will be having book club members complete assignments on Google Classroom, view videos, make discussion posts, and participate during meetings.

Announcements

  • We are currently reading Resistance, by Jennier Nielsen. Copies of the book were issued out before Spring Break.
  • You are free to read the novel in its entirety at your own pace. We will be providing you with a means of discussing the book via online forum through Gogle Classroom.
  • Make sure to post at least three times on the Google Classroom page over the course of the rest of the semester while you're doing your readings. However, we encourage you to post more, as this is a novel with a great deal of diverse content. You can post anything regarding your reactions to the reading, including your thoughts, feelings, or ideas about various characters, settings, or plot elements. If you don't remember how to make a post, please see the instructional video below.

Posting on Google Classroom - A few Guidelines

We must always maintain proper online etiquette when posting on Google Classroom. We want to ensure that everyone's opinion is respected, and that all our voices are heard. It is important that you adhere to some key guidelines when making discussion posts.

  • Never use any kind of profane language
  • Never mock someone else's post
  • If you disagree with someone, state exactly what you disagree with, and why you disagree with them (but never use a rude or mocking tone with your words)
  • Treat others as you would want to be treated online - always show respect
  • Failure to comply with these guidelines may result in a revocation of your membership to the Eagle Book Club
