“Creative writing is considered to be any writing, fiction, poetry, or non-fiction, that goes outside the bounds of normal professional, journalistic, academic, and technical forms of literature. Works which fall into this category include novels, epics, short stories, and poems. Writing for the screen and stage, screenwriting and playwriting respectively, typically have their own programs of study, but fit under the creative writing category as well."

The participants are given a series of pictures/beginning of story/problem and are expected to come up with a story related to the given pictures or write the end of the story or propose a solution to the given problem. The importance of grammar is mainly to make sure the writing is clear and easy to understand. The examiners will not pay attention to the complexity of grammar and vocabulary variety. As the name suggests, the main criteria for writing is being creative and coherent. Participants are not penalized for writing less than expected word count, however writing in the given amount gives a better chance express oneself and produce a better story.

Tasks:

Finish the story/Complete the story .

Write a story based on the illustrations

Propose a solution to given problem


JR participants are expected to write between 200-300 words (JR - grades 5-8)

Senior participants are expected to write between 300-500 words (Senior - grades 9-11)
