We have had a very exciting few weeks back at school. During the month of January we celebrated and participated in Literacy Month. Each grade enjoyed their author study and the various activities during the school day. We shared our family reading experiences, decorated our doorways and hallways, had guest readers, read during lunch and dressed up as our favourite characters. Characters from our favourite books came to life and populated our hallways!
We also celebrated Tu B’Shvat and connected this holiday to the importance of our environment through Media Literacy as students were given the opportunity to watch the Dr. Seuss story, “The Lorax.” Thank you to the PTA for the fresh and colourful fruit platters that were enjoyed by all. Students in JK, SK and grade 3 participated in a traditional Tu B’Shvat seder and had the opportunity to sample many of the seven species of Israel. Students in grade 4 made an outstanding display of trees that related and connected to specific themes and messages..
During next week, JungleSport comes to Bialik. Every class will have several opportunities to experience the climbing equipment and build the confidence and skills to do so.
As we move into February, we are excited to celebrate the upcoming Olympic Games in PyeongChang with our own “Bialik” version of the Winter Olympics. We will be participating in an opening ceremony on Friday, February 9, in which each class will represent a country, have a Olympic activity day on Tuesday, February 20 and joint Canada Flag Day and closing ceremony on Thursday, February 22.
Please note the dates of the upcoming winter break. School is closed on February 14 and will reopen on February 20, 2018.
