We acquired the land in May 2022, and set out to clear the massive area of thick greenery, along with the signage standing at 15 feet high on steel posts with concrete supports - this restricted access at the start.
After buying a lawn mower, petrol strimmer and cutters we starting making through the incredibly thick weeds, some of which were taller than 5 feet.
After removing the large billboard, and clearing all of the weeds, our next task was to start digging the foundations, to then fill with concrete.
We had intended to use a woodcrete block, so the foundations were wider than standard brick & block construction. The blocks were more environmentally friendly and had fantastic insulation values. Unfortunately, we didn't receive the blocks, as the company went into liquidation, so a very quick plan 'B' kicked into action!
Once the blockwork was up, we fitted Heavy Duty Steel Lintels to brace the openings between the Cavity walls - guaranteeing a secure build. We then started the framing of the Hip roof to be tiled with Slate.
We then poured Screed on to the concrete slab, to keep a smooth level surface, which also had Underfloor Heating on it. This helped keep our goal of Accessibility whilst maintaining a sleek look inside, with no radiators.
We opted for rendering the outside of the house, and kept a neutral tone throughout.
We are really proud of this new build bungalow. We achieved an EPC rating of B, and the whole property and surroundings are discreetly wheelchair user friendly. All the doors throughout are wide, with a fully accessible shower room and kitchen.
