Function of Behavior

Behavior, both appropriate and inappropriate can be thought of as serving one or more of the following functions:

1. Attention 

2. Escape or Avoidance

3. Access - to tangibles or activities

4. Sensory

When trying to address inappropriate behavior in the classroom, it helps to begin by determining which function the behavior serves.
