Welcome to Second Grade! It has been extremely busy at BHCS getting everything ready for an eventful and adventurous year. The building is sparkling clean, the BHCS staff has been preparing for the new year and the classroom is all set for students to arrive. I am looking forward to learning and growing together with each and every one of your children. Below you will find a collection of information about myself, the daily schedule, weekly newsletter and links that will prove to be helpful throughout the year.
Hello!
My name is Karen Larkin and I am looking forward to be your child’s teacher this year! I have been a teacher at BHCS for 39 years. While at BHCS, I have had the pleasure of teaching kindergarten, first and second grades in a variety of settings. I have come to discover that no matter what the grade level, each and every student has a unique sense of learning and although I have enjoyed teaching all three grades, second grade is my favorite! During this year, students become more independent thinkers. My job is to direct them in ways to continue this independence and to provide them with more opportunities to gain confidence in learning.
My classroom is built around consistency and routine, so every student understands the expectations and knows what to expect with each day's schedule. I have balanced the daily lessons with hands-on activities and opportunities to move about the room to provide students with energy breaks. It is my focus to make sure the classroom and schedule are filled with learning and laughter both. I am passionate about teaching, working with students to build their confidence and develop their interest in learning to every extent possible.
When I am not at school, I enjoy reading, gardening, boating, traveling, cooking and simply being outdoors. I love spending time with my family and pets. My youngest daughter is a senior in college, and my oldest daughter (who happens to be our PreK teacher) has a 2 year old daughter. This being said, I had lots of fun this summer being a grandmother! I also enjoy being with my dog and three cats!
I am looking forward to meeting you all and I know it is going to be an incredible year! Please do not hesitate to contact me with questions or concerns, as I am a firm believer that it is important to keep the lines of communication open between families and teachers to best meet student needs. My # at school is 374-2202, ext. 130 and my email address is: klarkin@bhcs.org
I know it is going to be an amazing year!
