Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake CSD Retirees

July 23, 2021

To: All Retirees,

As you know, our employee benefit plans provide attractive, high quality health, prescription drug, and dental coverage. Managing the ever-escalating cost of maintaining our benefits is a continuing challenge.

To assist us in ensuring that our plans are operating prudently, we have retained Benetech, Inc. to conduct dependent eligibility verification services. The sole purpose of this process is to verify that we are providing benefits only to those dependents who qualify for coverage, based on our established eligibility criteria.

If you are covering dependents under the Districts’s health, drug, and/or dental plans as of July 1, 2021, you will be receiving a mailing from Benetech in the next few days.

You will be required to provide documents which support your claim of dependent eligibility for coverage. Depending on your relationship with the dependent this may include birth certificates, tax returns, supporting legal documentation, etc.

Please watch your mail carefully. The complete verification package will be mailed to your home address on record in a Benetech envelope, so you’ll want to make sure it does not get discarded by mistake. Please be on the lookout for envelopes with Benetech Logo.

In the meantime, linked here is an FAQ for your review.

The criteria for verifying your dependent’s eligibility can sometimes be complicated, and errors can be made in assuming a dependent is eligible when, in fact, they may not be. We realize that verifying your dependent’s eligibility will require some effort on your part. Thanks in advance for your understanding, and for cooperating with our efforts to control plan costs and maintain the plans’ integrity and compliance with State and Federal regulations.

NY State Comptroller DiNapoli Warns of Text Message Scam Targeting Retirees

A text message scam is targeting retirees to make a payment for a retirement fund “upgrade” that would include additional “benefits” if they pay $1000. Comptroller DiNapoli has communicated to members and retirees that “the fund has not, and does not, send out any electronic messages asking for payment for upgrades. Don’t be fooled.”

Example of the scam text from the Comptroller’s site:

NY State residents can report tax or retirement system fraud using the Comptroller’s toll-free Fraud Hotline at 1-888-672-4555, by emailing investigations@osc.ny.gov or by mailing a complaint to the Office of the State Comptroller, Division of Investigations, 8th Floor, 110 State Street, Albany, NY 12236.

The District’s Annual Health Insurance Open Enrollment period will begin this week and will be conducted remotely to ensure that everyone that needs to make changes is able to do so in accordance with the current executive orders from Governor Cuomo. Open enrollment will be held from May 7, 2020 to May 29, 2020. During this time all eligible retirees and spouses are able to make changes to their prior health and dental plans determinations.

March 12

This afternoon, Governor Cuomo put significant restrictions on large group gatherings. Although there are no confirmed cases of the virus at BH-BL, we feel it is imperative to follow his lead and implement proactive steps that could help us keep our schools open and continue to educate our students.

Therefore, in an effort to reduce the instances of community contact at our schools, and protect students and staff, we have suspended all travel (i.e., field trips and conferences), community use of our facilities, outside visitors to our campus (i.e., college visits, etc.) and cancelled all extracurricular activities and large group events from March 13 to April 20. This means the High School play, Thoroughly Modern Millie, will be performed this evening (Thursday, March 12) only. The other two shows are cancelled.

This also includes continuing education classes, community swim, PTA meetings, movie nights, etc. (A list of many of the affected events is below.) Elementary play practices and after-school clubs are cancelled throughout this period. However, this does not impact the Y-Care program at any of our schools. Middle and high school clubs, activities, and extra help sessions that occur during the after-school activity period will still take place. We will continue to offer our late bus run for high school and middle school students.

Spartan Cafe is now open in the high school cafeteria. Click HERE to see what is on the menu!

All athletic games played on Centennial Field or in the High School Gym will now be streamed LIVE. Click HERE for more information.

Open Enrollment for all retirees (and spouses) over 65:
