March 22, 2024

The BHHS Jazz Ensemble competed in the Kutztown Jazz Festival last Saturday, March 16th. Senior trumpet player Angelina DeChristopher won a best overall soloist award, and her name and photo were included in a Reading Eagle article on Tuesday. Congratulations, Angelina! Thank you to D.K. Congratulations to Angelina DeChristopher for auditioning and qualifying for the Berks County Jazz Band on trumpet! Angelina will represent Brandywine Heights High School as the group opens for the UArts “Z” Big Band on April 9th and for the U.S. Army Jazz Ambassadors on April 11th.

The BHHS Jazz Ensemble was thrilled to welcome Sean J. Kennedy and Jon Gardner to campus last week. Mr. Kennedy and Mr. Gardner are the composer/arranger for the ensemble’s current piece, “Stick Bag Jones”. Mr. Gardner is an up-and-coming big band composer who teaches saxophone at Immaculata University. Mr. Kennedy is a well-known author, performer, composer and educator. He has co-authored books with Liberty DeVito (drummer for Billy Joel), and his music has been heard at Carnegie Hall and the Kimmel Center.

Thank you so much to everyone who came to MIOS on Saturday to support our music students. Despite the rain, the event was a big success! Our students had wonderful performances, and the combined Grades 4-12 band was a highlight. The Music Department and Music Boosters are grateful for all of the support! Mark your calendars for next year's Music In Our Schools concert, which is on Saturday, March 8, 2025.

Congratulations to Emily Klopp for auditioning and qualifying for Berks Junior County Chorus! Emily will represent Brandywine Heights High School in the Junior County Festival on April 6th.

BHHS Choirs had a few exciting events last week. Chamber Singers delivered singing valentines on Wednesday, 2/14. Thank you to everyone who supported this fun event, and special thanks to Miss Bechtel for playing bass and mandolin! On Friday, 2/16, seven students participated in LVC Honors Choir at Lebanon Valley College. They spent the day learning brand new music with school students from other high schools, and they performed a wonderful concert in the evening.

On Sunday the BHHS Jazz Ensemble performed at the SteelStacks High School Jazz Band Showcase. The group won Best Reed Section, and senior Angelina DeChristopher won Best Jazz Brass Soloist. Congratulations to these students and to the entire group for an outstanding performance!

January 25, 2024

Last week, four Brandywine Heights High School students participated in the Berks Senior County festival, which culminated in an outstanding concert on Saturday evening. Ellis Kline and Greta Kline participated in Sr. County Chorus, and Rachael Robinson and Madeline Roibu participated in Sr. County Band. Madeline Roibu was also in Sr. County Orchestra. Congratulations to these students for these achievements, and thank you for representing Brandywine with pride!
