Beech Grove High School offers a variety of standardized assessments designed to prepare students for higher education and future careers. Additionally, the data obtained from students' scores enables our teachers to tailor their instruction to meet the individual needs of each student.
Below are the assessments provided by Beech Grove, along with the typical grade levels at which they are administered. Please note that the State of Indiana also mandates specific assessments; these will be indicated with an asterisk (*) beside them.
PSAT 8/9: To establish an early baseline for college and career readiness and to help students practice for future SAT Suite exams. The exam tests students Reading/Writing and Math skills.
PSAT/NMSQT: The test is a preliminary version of the SAT, giving students a chance to practice for the SAT, and is also the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (NMSQT) for high school students.
I AM: This test measures the academic achievement of students pursuing Indiana’s Alternate Diploma.
SAT (*): This test allows high school juniors to take the official SAT during their regular school day. It serves as Indiana’s accountability assessment for Mathematics and English/Language Arts in high school.
ACT: The ACT is a standardized college admissions test that measures high school students' academic readiness in English, math, reading, and science. This test is offered twice a year to junior and senior students. We do not offer the Writing portion of the exam. The test is optional for all students.
ILEARN BIO (*): This test is Indiana's mandatory end-of-course assessment for high school biology, designed to measure student proficiency in the state's academic standards for the subject.
ASVAB: The ASVAB test measures aptitude in verbal, math, science, technical, and spatial domains to help students with career exploration, career matching, and/or enlistment eligibility.
Advanced Placement (AP): The Advanced Placement (AP) exam is used to validate a student's mastery of college-level high school coursework, allowing them to potentially earn college credit, skip introductory college courses, and strengthen their college applications. The AP exam is required for any student participating in an AP course.
WIDA: The WIDA is a set of assessments used in the United States to measure the English language proficiency of K-12 students, including both initial placement (WIDA Screener) and annual evaluations (WIDA ACCESS). It is a required test for all multi-language leaders.
NAEP: The NAEP exam is the U.S.'s primary measure of student academic achievement in subjects like math and reading. This exam provides consistent, national data to track educational progress for grade 12 over time, unlike state tests that vary.
Please note the following regarding BGHS standardized testing:
All standardized tests are completed digitally through student Chromebooks
Most exams take 2 1/2 to 3 hours to complete, excluding those with built-in accommodations
We often are not able to do make-up exams and therefore, it is imperative that students are present at school on test day.
