hE barely had time to open hiS mouth to protest hiS punishment.
hE would beg to stay in the clouds, near the sun. Meanwhile all the angelic faces gazed upon hiM as hE received hiS judgment. Their captivating wings stilled uneasily, and with anticipation, waiting for the ultimate verdict of hiS trial.
hE fell. It was as if hE’d gotten too heavy for the clouds to carry hiM.
hE felt himselF slipping through the pillowy surface of the clouds, trying to grasp at them, but feeling hopeless as they felt like air in hiS hands.
The bright light of the heavens slipped away from hiM and hE felt himselF getting heavier and falling faster. hiS heart plunged in hiS chest.
hiS wings’ white feathers floated around hiM. At this moment, hE wished his heart would float out of hiS chest before hE hit the surface. hE couldn’t bear to live with the shame.
hE would’ve moved hiS wings and started to fly upward, but hE couldn’t. They felt as if they were slowly turning to stone. hE was absolutely paralyzed by the shock and surprise of it all.
How could hiS people betray hiM like this? This is what three centuries of loyalty got hiM? All it took was one error in judgment for them to turn their backs when hE needed them the most.
hE felt the strong pull of gravity as hE slipped into the atmosphere. It crushed hiS stomach. hE fell ten times faster. hiS wings started to catch fire at the tips.
It didn’t matter anymore. hE would never be able to gaze upon the direct face of the sun, feeling its warmth and joy. hE would never be able to fly in the heavens, grazing the soft surface of the clouds, like miles of silk. hE would never be able to see the perfect, almost unthinkable faces of the angels, hiS only family. hE would never be able to fly freely, hear the melodic sounds of laughter, the music filling hiS ears.
hE broke through the surface, a deafening cracking sound filling hiS ears. hE fell through an ocean, water rushing into hiS ears and nose. hE thanked the uncaring sea for its brutality, succumbing to it. hE let himselF sink into the abyss in an attempt to end hiS misery.
hE watched as gold streaked the water, and realized the gold was coming from hiS eyes. hE admired the deep calm blue of the ocean mixing with hiS tears, although it would never compare the beauty of the heavens.
hE closed hiS eyes, gold slipping out of them.
hE was fallen.
