Stressed Students
Everyone at Franklin experiences stress, regardless if they are in their senior year or new, incoming students.
This is especially pronounced on C-Days. As you know, students have to see all their teachers on C-Days for shorter class periods. This can be draining for students who, after going through a tough week, have to endure another day of instruction from not just four but six teachers, with several stressful transitions in between.
Students should have the chance to de-stress every week.
Health and Wellness Day is a proposed alternative to our current C-Day schedule.
The schedule would be the homeroom + C-Day Activity schedule.
In the homeroom, all students would watch a video on how they should prioritize their mental health before their grades and anything else, how de-stressing is important and how academics aren’t the only thing that matters in order to be successful.
During the C-day Activity period, we would have de-stress activities all around the school. The programming would change throughout the year, whether it be a recess-returns type of day, gaming, or talking to counselors about issues you have going on. The activities can continue into lunch if students wish, though it is not necessary.
Trade-offs
This would require some planning. A legitimate student organization, like the Student Activities Council or Student Advocacy Board, would need to coordinate the various activities.
