TOPIC #0028: Medical Patents
Making medicine extremely expensive by using medical patents is simply unethical. To overcome this issue, 2 measures can be taken. First, global society should install an "Institute for Common Benefit" and provide it with sufficient money to do the medical research for the most important drugs like malaria-drugs and penicillin. The second measure would be that the Global Court is capable to force companies to sell their patent at a reasonable price (which the global court will establish), to hand it over to the Public Institute that handles the production of drugs. Only this approach would reduce medical costs for consumers dramatically, in a way that - in combination with a proper medical insurance - nobody need to worry about having proper medication. Only in very special situations the costs of medical treatment could become too extreme. (see Topic #0025 Value of Life).
