Salt to Sea Review
Salt to Sea by Ruta Sepetys is a book about refugees escaping from Germany during WW2. So trigger warning for the book because there are topics of Death, escape, guns, bombs. During the book, four young adults escape the war. One of my favorite parts of the book was when Florian and Joane kissed. I didn’t think it would happen but it did and was honestly very surprising. One of my least favorite parts of the book was when one of my favorite characters died in the middle of the book. It was very sad for me but that just shows how hard it was during the war.
Dear Diary, 2/14
Today is February 14th, Happy Valentines Day! Well sort of, yesterday my best friend Jess and I were at her locker packing up to go to my house, when out of the blue my crush comes down the hallway with flowers,
“Oh my god he’s coming here!” I said
“He’s going to ask you out!” Jess said to me
I wish what Jess had said to be true but it was not, in fact it was the exact opposite. My crush came up to Jess and said:
“Uhh Jess, you have any plans tonight” He said nervously
I was shocked, so shocked that my body froze completely in its place.
“Nope” Jess said confidently
“Do you want to go out with me?” My crush said to her
“Sure I would love that” Jess said
At that point I started to run away in tears that my best friend since 2nd grade had betrayed me.
Yours truly,
Kayla
Gift Giving 101
By: Eli Meier
Have you ever been in a situation where it's one week before Christmas or someone's birthday and you don’t have any gifts for people? Well here are some steps you can take before you go crazy.
Write down the people you are going to get gifts for
Write down the people hobbies/ what they want
Personally when its one week before Christmas or birthdays I go to a dollar store. I grab a box an put in candies and some crafts in the box. With this it is special and personalized plus it doesn’t cost to much. I would say the average price for one would be 10-15 dollars
Make something! Make cards or crafts
Bake cookies or cake and decorate it
I hope this helps you with the holidays coming and birthdays in 2022!
Here are some holiday and winter cookie recipes!

New Year Resolutions:
How to Keep Them!
By Sophia Landi & Ashley Sagendorph
Keeping your New Year's resolutions can be hard but using these tips will help.
One thing you could do is turn your resolution into a habit, or a part of your daily life. An example would be to read a book every week. Make time in your day to read a book and go to the library once a week.
Another thing that you could do is make a plan for a day when you have high energy, medium energy, and low energy. For example, I'll be using “reading a book every week” again. If you have high energy that day, then read a lot of pages, if you have medium energy, then don't read as many pages, and if you have low energy, again, don't read as many.
Just remember that your resolution might be something new to you, and that is totally okay. If you have trouble getting into a habit just start slowly.
If you need more tips and tricks then you could email the eagle eye or put your suggestion in the “Ask the eagle eye” box.

The Winning Shot
By: Gianna
“5!” my hands are shaking. “4!” my teammate raced down the court. “3!” I juke my defender to get open. “2!” I get the pass from my teammate. “1!” I close my eyes and shoot. The clock goes off. I open my eyes, my teammates were crying, coach gives me a look like she is mad and disappointed at the same time. Then all of the sudden if things couldn’t get any worse, the point guard on the other team came over and picked up the trophy and shoved it in my teams’ face. “RYA, WAKE UP!!” Her mom said, Rya frantically was shook awake.
“Phew, it was just a dream,” Rya said .
“ Oh, honey your championship game is tonight!” Rya’s mom said.
Rya froze in her tracks, did she just predict the future!?!?
After school Rya headed straight to the gym where some of her teammates were already shooting around. Rya was so spooked that instead of working on her ball handling after stretching she went straight to the hoop and started shooting, minutes later Rya sat down and got a drink, she looked at her phone It was 4:15! She had been practicing for and hour and a half ! Rya got up and started to practice more and more, but not too much so she would be tired for the game.
Before the game, Rya and her teammates rushed to the locker room to do a pep talk. Coach was going on and on about no matter we win or lose he would still be proud, but my teammates faces did not look like they wanted to lose, the captain on the team Angela warmed us up on the court, it was a home game so the seats were packed! Everyone was nervous including me, but the only thing I can do about it is to play my heart out.
Scoreboard:
Home: Away:
56 56
Its halftime and as I look at the scoreboard I realize how far my team has come, to get in this gym right here right now. Coach gives us some “time to chill” in the locker room as we just sat there in silence, finally Angela said something:
“Girls, look how far we have come, ARE WE GOING TO LOSE?”
Quiet no’s filled the air.
“I SAID, ARE WE GOING TO LOSE?!?!?!?!?!?” Angela screamed again
“NOOOOOOO” we all screamed together.
After that coach came to us and talked about our play and the other teams plays but I was tired of this and wanted to get on the court already.
“Buzz” went the scoreboard it was the end of the 3rd quarter, tied 66 to 66 neither of the teams scored a lot. In the blink of an eye it was the 4th quarter with 7 minutes left and we were down 12 points.
Coach said he would put me in at the 5 minute mark, when that time came and the ref blew the whistle for subs I sprinted on to the court. We're down 5 points I get the ball I run down the court throwing the ball down to the other side where one of my teammates caught it and shot it it went in, 3 points down, then 2, then suddenly as I’m running back to the other side of the floor I find the croud cheering “10!” “9!” “8!” “7!” they marked us all up we were doomed, one of teammates set a screen on me so I got open to every basketball players nightmare, the 3-point line, Angela who had the ball saw that I was opened and pass me the ball “3!” “2!” I closed my eyes and shot the ball “1!” the buzzer went off, I was preparing myself for the shame I was going to get but that changed. I opened my eyes to see my teammates hugging me saying that I did it!!
Later that night our whole team got ice cream, at 9pm when it was the coldest day of the week, but we didn’t care, tonight was a night to remember.

Book: Fablehaven
Author: Brandon Mull
Review by Gabby Geracitano
Overall a great book series. The books are about a sister and brother who’s parents are going on a cruise ship, so they are going to live at their grandparents house while they’re gone. But their grandparents' house is not what it seems to be. Everything around them is magical and mystical, but they don’t know it, and can’t see it. Fablehaven is one of my favorite series I’ve read by far.
Summer of a Thousand Pies
By: Gianna Gigliello
Summer of a Thousand Pies by Magret Dillioway is one of my favorite books since I read it, Summer of a thousand pies is an amazing book about when Cady Bennett is sent to live with her Aunt Shell (which she didn't even knew was alive). She stays in what used to be her mother's room, she explores the countryside filled with apple orchards and pie shops, making friends, and working in Aunt Shell's own pie shop - and soon, Cady starts to feel like she belongs. When Cady finds out that the Shells shop is falling.
Is she going to do something?
If she does how?
Will the shop close for good!!?!?!??
Read the book to find out.
