Superintendent's News
Christine Carver, Ed.D.,
Superintendent of Schools
Dear Parents, Guardians, Staff, and Community Members,
As we wind down the school year, we have a lot to celebrate. This week, we hosted our annual scholarship night where, to date, students have earned in excess of 820,000 dollars. Last night we celebrated class night and we look forward to graduation on the 17th (rain date, June 18th). Many of our student-athletes participated in the state tournaments, some setting records. Our theater students also won state-level awards this spring. As we close the school year we have a lot to be grateful for.
Family Summer Kickoff
Pre-COVID, every year the Bethel Education Foundation annually hosts the Family Summer Kickoff. We are thrilled to announce that it is back on June 10th from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on the Bethel High School football field. It is a great time for children to play, and enjoy games and crafts, and for parents to socialize as we kick off Summer! Grab dinner at our snack shed (full menu). All proceeds from the event benefit our teachers in the form of grants to innovate in their classrooms. To register for the event, click here.
School Security Parent Session
As mentioned in last week’s newsletter the Uvalde tragedy in Texas has generated a lot of questions from parents about our approach to school security. I had several parents ask me to host another school security session and it seemed appropriate, as we have not done one in several years. That Parent Session on School Security will be this Monday, June 6th from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Bethel Middle School Auditorium with the Bethel Police Department. For those who can not attend, we will ensure that the session is videotaped.
If you would like to attend the session, please complete this short Google Form.
Walking Dogs in the Educational Complex
Those who know me well, know that I am an avid lover of dogs. Many citizens walk the educational complex and walk their dogs. We want the community to continue to enjoy this amazing walking space. A reminder, dogs are not permitted on any fields and especially unleashed at any time. We have an amazing dog park in Bethel if you want to have open space for your dog to run around and play with others dogs. In addition, pick up after your dog. These fields are used by our children and our athletic teams. We appreciate your cooperation in this matter.
In addition, we want to remind you that our playgrounds are not open to the public during the school day. It creates a security risk. We have amazing parks in the community with playgrounds that you access during the school day.
Student Recognition
BHS Goes to LesserEvil
This past Wednesday, Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) members and Culinary Arts students were lucky enough to be invited to a factory tour and presentation at LesserEvil Snacks in Danbury. Led by Mr. Ford and Mrs. Turek, the students learned about both the marketing and business components of the company, as well as the unique ingredients and food production processes.
The staff of LesserEvil welcomed BHS students with open arms and bags of popcorn. The CEO, Marketing Manager, and Head of Human Resources of LesserEvil gave a wonderful presentation about their company, how it originated, and how it grew to be the success it is today. They also stressed the importance of hard work, teamwork, and failure in the quest for success.
The Factory Manager was incredibly knowledgeable and did an amazing job explaining all the working parts of the factory. The students were very impressed with the culture and environment at LesserEvil. This was an invaluable experience for our students and we want to say a big "thank you" to LesserEvil!
