Parent University - Internet Safety - March 10th at 6:00 PM - BHS Auditorium
Next Thursday, March 10th from 6:00 PM to 7:30, as part of our Parent University series, we will be hosting a session on Internet Safety in the Bethel High School Auditorium. Scott Driscoll, former law enforcement, of Internet Safety Concepts is an expert in the field. With the constant surge of new information, programs and apps, the world is a click or text away. But with the new advances come new dangers and concerns. Parents need to be aware of the technology their children use and the trouble that can follow if safety rules are not in place. The focus will be to provide you with strategies to help to monitor what your child is doing online, to protect them from dangers. Even if your child is too young to have a smart device, this workshop will be extremely informative in implementing proactive strategies. Unfortunately, we can not record this session, you need to attend in person. This session is being hosted in collaboration with the Bethel Police Department.
Public Hearing on the Town and School Budgets
The Board of Finance approved a proposed budget to bring forward to the taxpayers for comment. The proposed budget (for the schools and town) is a total of $85,500,111, representing an estimated tax increase of 1.1% over last year's budget. On the average home in Bethel, the tax increase is estimated to be $82.21 a year or $6.85 a month. The proposed school budget ensures that all current curricular and extracurricular programs are maintained, while addressing class size and special education needs of our students, given the increased enrollment within our district. The public will have an opportunity to comment on the proposed budget at the Public Hearing on Monday, March 21, 2021, at 7:00 PM in the Bethel Middle School Auditorium. If you are unable to attend the session in person and would like to provide comment, you can email the Board of Selectman and Board of Finance at craigd@bethel-ct.gov. Please be sure to include your name and street address in the email.
