SINGING AND LEARNING TOGETHER!
SINGING AND LEARNING TOGETHER!
The Lower School (grades K-5) meets together on Tuesday mornings for SALT - Singing and Learning Together. We sing songs, pray together, and learn more about the story of God and God's people.
GOD'S STORY, GOD'S SONG Curriculum
We are using the GOD'S STORY, GOD'S SONG curriculum developed by Talashia Keim Yoder, a pastor at College Mennonite Church, to guide our chapel time together. This curriculum focuses on how the Bible is the story of God and God's people and the Bible is our story! Each week we are learning more about a new bible story and focusing on the themes of:
1. The people of God miss the mark.
2. God sticks with the people!
Each week we are singing the story, reading the story, and creating something from the story!

See video below!
Week 15 - Daughters of Zelophehad
The 5th graders shared the story of Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, Tirzah using an interview format. This was a new story to most students. A song written by Bryan Moyer Suderman helped bring this story to life in a new way for us.
Daughters of Zelophehad
Came to Moses very sad
When their father passed away
This is what the scriptures say
Zelophehad, he had no sons
So there wasn’t anyone
To inherit land when he died
Daughters were not qualified.
Daughters said this isn’t right
So they overcame their fright
And said to Moses, listen here
This law you gave, it isn’t fair!
Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, Tirzah
were their names back then.
Five brave women who together
said it’s time to look again.
Moses and the leaders heard
What they said, every word
All the people on that day
Listened to-what they had to say
Moses brought their case to God
The one who’d given all the laws
The one who has the final word
Can you guess what Moses heard?
Listen here, God said to Moses
Daughters of Zelophehad
Are absolutely right, you know
I agree with what they’ve said
And so the laws they were rewritten
God told Moses what to say
To help the people see more clearly
What is like to live God’s Way!
Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, Tirzah
were their names back then.
Five brave women who together
said it’s time to look again.
Week 14 - The 10 Commandments
The 5th graders created an old time radio show to share the story of Moses receiving the 10 commandments from God. Students created all of the sound effects needed in the story. Listeners closed their eyes and experienced the story through hearing and smelling!

Our kindergarten class told their first story of the year and helped us see how God showed the people that God would provide for them in the wilderness with daily manna and quail.

The 3rd grade class worked hard on their burning bush artifact! It is truly amazing. Great work 3rd Grade artifact team!
Week Nine - Baby Moses
Joseph's family continued living in Egypt and generations later they became slaves because Pharaoh did not know how Joseph had once saved them. Joseph's descendant's cried out to God for help and God raised up a new leader, Moses!
Week Eight - Joseph saves Egypt from famine
The jealous brothers sold Joseph to be a SLAVE and it seemed like all hope was lost. Joseph interpreted DREAMS for important people and eventually saved Egypt from FAMINE.
Mrs. Kern's class worked together to tell this story!
Week Seven - Jacob is sold as a slave
Mr. Stucky's 5th grade class shared the first half of the Joseph story. Joseph was Jacob's favorite son and his other brothers were jealous of him. Joseph's brothers sold him to be a slave and he ended up in Egypt. It looked like all hope was lost for Joseph, but God did not give up on Joseph. God continued to love him and stick with him.
This weeks artifact represents the beautiful coat that Jacob gave to Joseph.
See the video below for this part of the story.
Week Six - Jacob and Esau
The 3rd graders told the story of Jacob and Esau. These brothers were twins and they didn't get along very well. Esau was older but he sold his inheritance to his brother Jacob for a bowl of soup. Jacob later tricked his father into giving him the blessing and inheritance by pretending to be Esau. This family missed the mark a lot, but God stuck with them!
Week Five - Abraham and Sarah
The 4th grade class shared the story of Abraham and Sarah being called to join a covenant relationship with God.

"The Lord said to Noah there's gonna be a floody, floody. Get those animals (clap) out of the muddy muddy. Children of the Lord."
"So rise and shine and give God the glory, glory."
Several generations later, the world was full of wickedness and God decided to make a fresh start. One man, named Noah, was "righteous" and called chose Noah to build an ark to save himself and his family. The waters covered all of the earth but Noah and his family were saved. God sent a rainbow as a sign of God's promise to never flood the Earth again.
