Art Through English is a professional development seminar for teachers that has being taking place during the last 12 years.
It is a collaborative project between the Berritzeguneak in Gasteiz, and ARTIUM Museum.
During the seminars and courses participants (teachers, advisers from the Berritzegune and the person in charge of the Educational department in Artium museum) work in a close collaboration to design Art Lesson plans in English.
The sessions are both practical and theoretical. Altogether we develop ideas and design materials before the teachers work with them in the classroom. The museum is an ally for the teachers.
It was conceived to strength the students' art competency. Art is not an isolated subject but part of a whole approach to different competencies.
Art is understood as a way of seeing and a way of changing the way we see; as a methodology that can facilitate access to other areas of the school curriculum. Art practice is a form of thinking and thinking is a form of practice.
These are our objectives:
- to develop materials to teach art contents through English in Primary Education;
- to share teachers' experiences when implementing those materials in the classroom;
- to foster the reflection on art among the students by observing works of art in the classroom.
- to promote the use of the museums as a learning space.
These are the schools that have been involved in the project at least during one school-year:
