Reaction

Place the reagents in a one dram vial, stir, and heat.

The video begins with three pieces of weighing paper sitting on a lab bench. All three have been folded in half diagonally. The left piece of paper holds a small pile of light yellow power, next to a small brown glass reagent bottle labeled “2-nitrobenzaldehyde.” The center piece of paper holds white contents that are barely visible against the glare on the paper, next to a small brown glass reagent bottle labeled “silica gel.” The right piece of paper holds a large pile of clumpy white powder, next to a brown glass reagent bottle labeled “methyl(triphenylphosphoranylidene)acetate.” To the left of all of these objects is an empty glass 1 dram vial. The contents of each piece of weighing paper are added to the 1 dram vial one by one. The vial is lifted and angled towards the camera so that we can see the white and yellow powders inside and then the contents are twirled with a metal spatula. We are shown the inside of the vial again (which looks mostly the same) before it is placed inside a nearby microwave oven.
