In my time with Formula Electric thus far, I have designed many different components for the Brakes and Ergonomics system. Notable improvements I made to our car were in the design of seat, floor closeout, and driver harness. Each of these parts I individually designed in solidworks CAD, including running hand calculations, and FEA. I also personally purchased the stock and fasteners, manufactured the parts, wrote up technical documentation, and presented the parts in multiple design reviews for my team and industry engineers. For all of my work, I also made 3D printed jigs to hold tabs in place for welding.
The racing seat is a single carbon fiber wet layup in a machined polyurethane mold. It has steel tabs attaching itself to the chassis. The safety harness is fully rule compliant and secured using eyebolts/welded bosses, reducing our weight by over 0.6 kilograms from last year. The harness features antisubmarining belts extending from underneath and through the seat, reducing risk of spinal compression. The floor closeout's main feature is its attachment method; by using rivet nuts and steel tabs it allows for ease of removal, maintaining stability and adequate access to the pedal box for maintenence.
