Teaching

Teaching Philosophy

I approach teaching and mentoring with three main goals: (1) to create welcoming, inclusive spaces where students can explore diverse ways of thinking, knowing, and communicating; (2) to guide students to an understanding of the patterns in language while centering the connections between language, people, and socio-political issues; and (3) to work with students on communicating their findings to multiple audiences, allowing their knowledge to circulate and create positive change.

I'm very interested in exploring ways to improve equitable grading, including developing assessment that centers on learning objectives, and I've been working on building a sense of community and mutual respect in a virtual environment as we continue to rely on remote teaching. Please let me know if you'd like to talk about teaching and equity with me!
