John Arnold
Distinguished Professor Emeritus, College of Chemistry
Joe Brackbill
Graduate Student, '24
Joe received his B.A. in biochemistry from Dartmouth College in June of 2018. At Dartmouth, Joe studied the electron-transfer reactivity of a di-heme cytochrome in the lab of Dr. Ekaterina Pletneva. Joe joined the Arnold group in October of 2018 and is studying the bonding and reactivity of main group-actinide systems. Aside from chemistry, Joe enjoys rowing, biking, and listening to classical music.
Jacob Branson
Graduate Student, '24
Jacob received his B.S. in chemistry from Florida State University in May of 2019. During his undergraduate, Jacob worked on the synthesis and characterization of f-element molecular compounds with Prof. Thomas Albrecht-Schmitt. He joined the Arnold lab in Fall 2019 as a joint student with Dr. Stefan Minasian at Berkeley Lab. In his free time, Jacob can be found hiking followed by a brewery.
Sheridon Kelly
Graduate Student, '24
Sheridon received her B.S. in chemistry from Colorado State University in May 2020. As an undergraduate, Sheridon studied surface-interface interactions of imidazolium-based ionic liquids with Dr. Amber Krummel. She joined the John Arnold lab in Fall of 2020 as a joint student with Dr. Stefan Minasian at Berkeley Lab. Outside of the lab, Sheridon loves to bake goods she saw on the Great British Bake Off, read books stolen from her friends’ bookshelves, and photograph people & landscapes with a camera way above her skill level.
David Hales
Graduate Student, '25
David received his B.S. in chemistry and applied physics from the University of Washington in 2020. As an undergrad, David worked on exfoliating black phosphorus with molten salts and metallating black phosphorus with rhenium carbonyl precursors under Prof. Alexandra Velian. David joined the Arnold group in Fall 2020 and is investigating strategies to generate rhenium-main group element bonds. Outside of lab, catch David biking up big hills, playing clarinet, throwing a frisbee, reading sci-fi, or remarking on how nice the weather is in Berkeley.
Lucas Rodriguez
Undergraduate Student, '25
Lucas is a fourth-year undergraduate Chemistry major. Lucas joined the Arnold group in Summer 2022, working with David on generating rhenium-main group compounds and exploring rhenium reactivity. Outside of school, Lucas loves scouting tide pools, hunting salamanders, and experimenting with guitar effects.
