Industrial pollution is fueling a triple crisis of sick communities, poisoned ecosystems and a warming planet. The resulting harm is immense: a scourge of preventable disease and death, untold billions in health costs and planetary damage that threatens our future, and present.
At The Examination, an investigative global health newsroom, we believe that hard-charging journalism that exposes who and what is responsible is a necessary predicate for action — and meaningful change.
Since our launch in 2023, we’ve partnered with 70 newsrooms across the globe, from heavyweights like the New York Times to a two-person team in Cameroon, to deliver stories that are making a difference. Our reporting draws a direct line between corporate behavior and resulting health and environmental harms, with reporting from, and for, the most threatened communities.
We are delighted to invite you to join me and our oil and gas industry reporter, Will Evans, on October 27 in Berkeley for an intimate conversation about the role of investigative journalism in exposing corporate wrongdoing, how reporting can (and is) driving real-world impact, how our team is working directly with scientists to buttress our findings — and any questions you might have.
We will also share behind-the-scenes details of a major, globe-spanning investigative project about gas flaring led by The Examination that will launch a few weeks before the event.
We plan for a lively and interactive conversation. We hope you can join us!
