At the start of every fall semester, the Fung Institute will send a call for applications via bCourses to recruit a group of Student Ambassadors from amongst the MEng cohort.
These key student leadership positions provide an opportunity to have an active role in crafting the academic and social experience of the MEng cohort. They also engage with prospective applicants and assist with recruitment and yield events throughout the year.

A career-focused affinity group, is a group of people with a common career interest or goal (e.g. biotech, entrepreneurship, consulting, product design, tech+social justice, energy, automotive, etc.). With the support of the MEng Career Development team, affinity groups may put on programs, arrange events, invite speakers and more. Affinity groups celebrate the diversity of our student cohorts, while also offering a space to share, support, and learn about/from each other.

The capstone student ambassadors work closely with program staff to help co-design the capstone experience, through curriculum improvements, capstone and teaming focused events, and community building throughout the year.
Most administrative announcements and communication from faculty and staff will be made via email as well as through the MEng Program bCourses site. Students are responsible for checking email on a regular basis. Students also must ensure that their program and University emails are being forwarded to the proper account.
We like to share about a conference and competition funding opportunity that is designed to encourage and support involvement in academic and professional events related to capstone projects and other coursework in the Master of Engineering program. All registered Master of Engineering students in good academic standing are eligible to apply for a professional competition grant for:
Case competitions
Business plan or innovation competitions
Presentations (and/or paper submission)
Please apply no later than two weeks before the event by submitting this Google form, providing as much information as possible. Approved funding will be issued in the form of reimbursements only. Students must provide receipts after the event to be reimbursed. Grants will be issued on a rolling basis throughout the academic year.

Students are issued a UC Berkeley ID card in order to access school buildings, libraries, student lounges, etc. While on campus, students must have IDs available at all times. Additionally, a student ID may serve as proof of student status to be eligible for student discounts offered by various vendors. cal1card.berkeley.edu
All UC Berkeley students must carry a minimum level of health insurance coverage. The campus provides a health insurance plan for those who wish to purchase it. Health insurance fees are assessed each semester as one of the registration fees. However, if you demonstrate that you have comparable coverage, you may waive the University’s Student Health Insurance Program (SHIP). The waiver must be renewed each academic year. For more information about the Student Health Insurance Plan, please visit the University Health Services webpage.
All registered students may use the services of UHS, regardless of what type of insurance they have. UHS, located in the Tang Center on campus, is a comprehensive, state-of-the-art health care facility, with medical, mental health and wellness departments. Their clinicians and staff are dedicated to students’ good health and well-being.
