I began my teaching career in 2000 here in the Berea City School District. I taught for 2 yrs. before starting a family and staying home with my children. I returned to teaching in 2008 and spent many years as a daily and long term substitute, mostly here at Brook Park Memorial. In 2015, I started a new chapter in my career as a Title 1 Tutor. I enjoy working with small groups of Kindergarteners, 1st & 2nd graders each day! Nothing could be more rewarding than seeing a student grow and flourish as a reader! I feel incredibly blessed to work with students to become strong and confident readers and additionally fortunate to be able to teach here at BPM, the school where I taught my very first day 18 yrs. ago and where my own children attended elementary school.

I began my teaching career in 1999 teaching fifth grade at Big Creek Elementary in the Berea City School District. After having my first daughter, I decided to stay home to raise my daughter, who is now 19 years old. During that time I had my second daughter, who is now 16 years old.
I decided to return back to teaching six years ago and returned back to the Berea City School District as a substitute teacher. I was then hired as a Title I Tutor at BPM Elementary four years ago. I get to work with the kindergarten, first, and second grade Title I reading students. It is my passion to help my students find a confidence and a love for reading both in the academic setting as well as recreational reading.
So it is with children who learn to read fluently and well: They begin to take flight into whole new worlds as effortlessly as young birds take to the sky. —William James
After 2 years of serving as a substitute teacher and reading coach in the Berea schools, I was hired as a Title I tutor. I am proud to say that this year is my 13th year as a Title I tutor. For the past few years, I have worked specifically with kindergarten, third and fourth grades. My mission is to teach kids how to fall in love with books and reading and to provide them with the support and encouragement they need to become lifelong readers.
I have been married to my wonderful husband, Doug, for three years now and we have a menagerie of pets including 3 dogs, 2 cats and 2 horses. The newest addition to our family is a Golden Retriever named Chance. He is a certified therapy dog who comes to school with me to help students with reading and writing.
