Grades 1 & 2

Let's Rock and Read!!!

We love Rock n' Roll, but what we love even more is helping our 1st and 2nd grade students become more confident & fluent readers throughout the school year! BPM Rocks and so does Reading Club! We decided to once again wrap our school theme for the year into our classroom! Every student has chosen a book that is a little more challenging for them than a Good Fit Book. We are working to Rock and Read that book with every student!

Annual Reading Rock Project

We were fortunate once again this school year to receive grant money to put toward our traditional Reading Rock Project. Each student was able to choose their very own rock. We encourage them to use their imagination to create whatever they would like their rock to look like. The students spend some time writing and illustrating their own story about their rock. We compile all stories from both grades into one "Rock Stories of the 1st of 2nd Grade" so that our students may read other students rock stories across all classes. After painting and creating is complete, our Reading Rocks become something that our students can read aloud to besides themselves, a partner, or a teacher. We encourage our students to read to a grown up, sibling, pet, or even a stuffed animal at home every day as this will continue to support and sustain the reading growth we are working toward here at school!
