CCTV System Design & Costing:

I have made an ariel map of your house with the cameras positioned in the locations as discussed. I have modeled the walls of your house and the garage and overlaid them onto a google map. Camera 1 is the vandal-proof dome camera on the side of the garage that protects the main driveway in. Camera 2 is the parking area and driveway. Camera 3 is the oil tank.

I have also added two more cameras that I think might be useful to the map (numbers 4 &5). Number 4 is the front door and number 5 protects the kitchen/ dining room.  You don't have to have these additional cameras but for very little extra cost, you will get a much more robust system that gives you greater protection.

You can get a really good value 4 camera systems which include the NVR and the vandal-proof dome camera would have to be bought separately. I have attached a video of me explaining the design of the system below:

The software that I have used is configured with the exact cameras that we discussed so all of the aspect ratios, the quality of the image, and the field of view are correct.

CCTV Camera System 1.

This is one of the systems that I believe might be useful for you. It is made up of one NVR (Network Video Recorder - where all of the videos from the cameras are stored) and 4 cameras. These are 2K (5MP) cameras but the NVR can support 4K. Each of the cameras has 100 feet of night vision.

If you had a larger area to cover or wanted clearer images of people then you may want to have a 4K camera system which is detailed below in Camera System 2. The images then would be double the quality of the 2K cameras but will only take up a similar amount of space on the NVR because of the way they compress the files and uncompress them when you are viewing it.

If you are interested in this system I would recommend potentially buying one of these systems quickly as on Amazon there is currently a spring sale with the biggest discounts I have seen on the systems for a long time.

Below I have embedded an Amazon website link with the camera system which you can click on. The listing title is a bit confusing because actually the cameras are 2K and it is the NVR that is 4K:

CCTV Camera System 2.

This is another system that I believe might be useful for you. It is made up of one NVR (Network Video Recorder) and 4 cameras. These are 4K (8MP) cameras so are double the quality of the 2K cameras and each has 100 feet of night vision. This system or something similar with 4K cameras would be my personal recommendation.

Again, I would recommend potentially buying one of these systems quickly as on Amazon there is currently a spring sale with the biggest discounts on the systems that I have seen for a long time.

Below I have embedded an Amazon website link with this camera system which you can click on to view:

Dome Camera

I would recommend combining one of the above systems with a vandal-proof dome camera for the side of the garage so that you are able to capture the number plates of cars driving down your road. This is vandal-proof, with x5 optical zoom so is good for number plate detection and high-quality images.

At the moment they are quite expensive and you may want to wait before buying this.  Over the last 120 days, it is at the most expensive it has been. The cheapest it has been over this period of time is £87.99 but is currently £101.69 on the Reolink Website

Below I have embedded the Reolink website with the camera- click on it to view more information:

Alternative Custom Camera Package

An alternative to these packages is to build your own with the specific cameras that you would like to have. If you only wanted to have 3 cameras or 2 for example there is an option for this. The NVR on its own would cost £185 (at current prices and on Amazon Easter sale) then the dome would cost £101 (at current price) and any other cameras that you would like to have for example a 4K turret camera which would cost around £65 each. This would be a total of around £416 which is just slightly cheaper than the other system but with 2 fewer cameras.

I have attached all of the embedded links below for you to click on and have a look at:

Camera Brands/ Manufacturers

I wanted to give you a ballpark figure of the kind of cost you will be looking at to see if you are interested in taking this any further before doing any more detailed work.

So I have selected Reolink cameras which come with a 2-year warranty. They are recognised as a good, reputable brand with a mid-range cost. We have Reolink at home and they are performing well.

Hikvision is the industry leader and you will see these at school and in other business locations. Their commercial cameras come with a 5-year warranty but these products are 30-50%  more expensive. and probably not worth the difference. HikVision also has a HiLook product range which seems to be a more "consumer version" of HikVision and has a 2-year warranty.  HiLook products are more competitively priced so could be worth a look if you are interested in taking this project further.

Another leading brand to consider is Ubiquiti which again could be slightly more expensive.

Estimated Costs

These prices may seem expensive but you will be getting comprehensive coverage of the main entry points to your home. If a system like this was installed commercially it would cost a lot more- possibly around £2000.
