Back to School Night 2018

It was a pleasure to see you at our Back to School Night meeting. I am excited about beginning a new school year, and look forward to collaborating and learning with you and your children. We are off to a great start. The children are impressing us every day with their willingness to try new tasks, their desire to be helpful, their respectful and joyful attitudes, and their creative thinking. Thank you for all you have done to set them up for a positive school experience. As a class we are working to build a supportive and productive community. We are sharing our hopes and dreams for the year and learning the daily routine. Our current goal emphasis is to be actively involved -- taking charge of making sure we understand what we hear and read, asking questions, and sharing our ideas. We are beginning a geography unit in social studies, writing memory stories, and reading nonfiction. In science we are studying the ocean ecosystem. This is often a year of great growth as thinkers and people. Your children are at that marvelous threshold where they are able to begin to look closely at themselves as learners, and where they want to begin to take charge of their learning. They are also beginning to recognize other points of view and beginning to see how they are members of a larger community. It is our hope to help them develop the self-confidence and willingness to take those academic and social risks.

Attached are the handouts.
