I offer placenta encapsulation and tincture services for women delivering throughout Hampton Roads & the Peninsula, Isle of Wight County, Surry, and Suffolk, Virginia.
What Is Placenta Encapsulation?
Placenta encapsulation is the process in which your placenta is properly and hygienically processed, ground into a fine powder, and then put into food grade capsules.
Nearly every mammal save for humans routinely engages in placentophagia (ingesting all or part of their placenta) after giving birth. This behavior has been shown to aid the mother's recovery after birth - the hormones present in the placental tissues encourage the uterus to contract down to it's pre-pregnancy size, shorten postpartum bleeding, and helps in milk production.
Women who have ingested their placenta in the form of capsules, smoothies, raw, and/or tinctures have reported*:
- Decreased postpartum healing time
- Shortened postpartum bleeding
- Decreased symptoms of postpartum mood disorders, such as Postpartum Anxiety and Postpartum Depression
Placenta Tinctures are potent liquid drops that are made by curing a small piece of your placenta over the course of several weeks. If stored properly your tincture can last for up to five years postpartum, providing you with long-term hormonal and mood support.

It should be noted that currently there are NO regulated safety or health standards for placenta encapsulation or other placenta products intended for human consumption. There have also been no clinical studies showing the benefits or the risks of engaging in placentophagia.
Most of the risks associated with consuming placenta products are due to poor, unregulated handling and processing standards. It is important to ensure your placenta encapsulation specialist is using proper sanitization, storage, and processing techniques as well as the client understanding and accepting the risk of potential blood and food borne illnesses.
Clients are encouraged to do their own research about consuming placenta products, like placenta capsules, and weighing the potential risks and the benefits of placentophagia prior to signing an encapsulation contract.
IT IS NEVER RECOMMENDED TO CONSUME PLACENTA PRODUCTS MADE FROM ANOTHER WOMAN'S PLACENTA.
