Welcome back to all our pupils, including all our new families joining our community. It has been lovely to see all the smiling faces dressed in their smart uniforms this week. We have enjoyed hearing all about everyone's adventures over the summer holidays. It has been wonderful to see the school filled with energy and smiles again as we begin a brand new academic year.
This term brings lots to look forward to. Our building work is progressing well and is on track to be finished by mid October. The classrooms have already benefitted from improvements completed over the summer, and the new windows in The Nest look fantastic.
A quick reminder that the School Office has now relocated and can be found at the end of the red bridge.
As we start this new school year, I would like to thank you for your continued support. Together, we can ensure that your children enjoy their learning, grow in confidence, and achieve their very best.
The windows are looking wonderful! The project will now be moving on to replacing the cladding, so you'll still see scaffolding up at various points across the school. We can't believe the difference it's already made! This has been funded by Hertfordshire County Council after the school placed a bid for the works to be considered. You will notice that some of the KS1 doors have moved to allow a better line of sight in the classrooms. There are sections of the school, such as the boarders on the playground that we need to relook at once the work is complete. We will also be replacing the classroom blinds. As ever, if you have any links to local companies that may be able to assist us, please do contact Mrs Maher on sbm@belswains.herts.sch.uk
Over the summer, we moved the school office to the Aviary building. This allows a clear line of sight to the school gates. If you need to speak to the office staff, sign a child in, or collect a child early, you will now go the new office location to do this. Please approach the office via the red bridge and buzz the intercom to speak to staff.
Please note, the drop off point for breakfast club remains near the school hall, where Ms Barley will meet and sign pupils in.
After school clubs commence Monday 8th September. Please note that where the previous club letter said collection was from the 'school office', although no longer the location of the school office, the club collection point remains the same, ie the entrance for the school hall.
Reminder: A FINAL PUSH for your votes!
We submitted an application for Outdoor Learning Friendship Zones:
We want to transform outdoor spaces, to underpin two of our school values of health and kindness, creating areas that can be used by pupils and staff in lessons and at break times.
The voting is now live in the following stores until 30th September. Please spread the word and vote! We could win up to £1,500.

We are excited to be offering extra wraparound care for Nursery pupils. This means, should you choose to, you will be able to book your Nursery aged child into a Nursery breakfast club and Nursery lunch club daily, during term time.
The cost of this provision is £4 for breakfast club and £6 for lunch club. Within the breakfast club your child will have the option to access cereals and bagels, should they wish. You will need to provide a suitable packed lunch for the lunch club; no nuts please.
You can book spaces via Arbor. Please contact the school office if you have any queries. admin@beslwains.herts.sch.uk
Please be reminded that we are a nut free school. For those families that may not have allergies in their households, this includes Nutella and Pesto. Whilst your child may not have allergies, we encourage socialising over lunchtime, so our pupils sit with their friends while eating in the Bistro. However, we have several pupils with severe allergies, requiring the use of Epi-Pens, so it is of upmost importance that we all adhere to a nut free environment.
A reminder of an important change to how we celebrate birthdays in school.
Children will no longer be permitted to bring in toys, sweets, or treats to share with their classmates on their birthdays.
Instead, we are offering a non-uniform day for each child on their birthday as a special treat. We hope this will continue to make birthdays feel exciting and unique for the children, while also keeping everyone safe.
This decision has been made with the safety and wellbeing of all pupils in mind. Many children in our school live with serious food allergies, and bringing in edible treats, however well-intentioned, can put them at real risk.
You may have seen the tragic recent news of a schoolboy who passed away after accidental exposure to cow’s milk protein.
