Last week, our Year 6 pupils completed their end of KS2 Assessmenents, and we couldn’t be prouder of how they approached the week. To help everyone feel relaxed and supported, we started each day with a breakfast together and made the most of the lovely weather by spending time outside in the afternoons.
While these assessments are important for measuring progress in Maths and English, we know they’re just one part of your child’s journey – they don’t capture all the wonderful qualities and achievements we see every day.
To mark the end of their exams, each Year 6 pupil received their very own Belswains Year 6 hoodie – and they all look fantastic! Well done, Year 6!
Last week, Reception enjoyed a wonderful trip to Bekonscot Model Village. The children took part in a workshop where they learned about the fascinating history of the village. They explored all the intricate models and were especially captivated by the impressive train track that wound its way through the displays. The visit also provided lots of opportunities for discussion about what life was like in the past. Highlights of the day included time in the park, the excitement of the coach journey, and of course, sharing their packed lunches with friends!
Year 1 visited the British Schools Museum on Tuesday. We experienced what life was like for children in a Victorian school. When we arrived, we put on some Victorian costumes. We all looked very smart! We played with some Victorian toys, and learnt how to tell if a toy is from the past or the present. Hint: plastic did not exist in the Victorian era! We also took part in some Victorian lessons, including the three Rs (reading, writing and arithmetic). The teacher was very strict, she even had a dunce cap and a cane!
On Monday 19th May, Jays and Redwings visited the Verulamium Museum in St Albans as part of their ‘Emperors and Empires’ topic. Both classes took part in a guided workshop, where they explored a Roman market filled with items once used by the Romans. They also had the opportunity to look around the museum, which was packed with fascinating artefacts and historical information.
A highlight of the trip was visiting the Hypocaust – an incredible ancient underfloor heating system that’s over 1,800 years old! The children behaved brilliantly throughout the day and thoroughly enjoyed the experience!
Year 4 had a great day learning about the Egyptians on Wednesday. We adorned our costumes and enjoyed a drama workshop, learning about the mummification process and what explorers did when they stole the bodies. Back in class, we made papyrus and a sarcophagus made from card. Did you know Victorians used crushed mummy bones as medicine?
We are incredibly proud of our Year 5 Key Stage 2 Netball team, who played brilliantly against some very strong opposition at Longdean Secondary School. Throughout the tournament, they demonstrated not only excellent teamwork, sportsmanship and resilience, but also impressive skill that continued to develop and strengthen with each match. Their determination and growing confidence on the court were clear to see and reflect the values we hope will continue to support them as they progress into Year 6. A huge well done to the whole team- keep up the fantastic work!
