A huge thanks to our wonderful PTA who have purchased new rugs for the Year 1 and Year 2 classrooms. The new rugs have individual spaces for all the children to sit on during carpet time and bring a splash of colour to the classes. They look fabulous! We are so grateful to our families for supporting PTA events and for all the work the PTA volunteers undertake.
We have been informed that our long awaited Herts County Council funded project to replace all our windows and cladding will be starting on 11th July. It is expected to run until October half-term. We have met with the project leads and outlined the needs of the school. We expect the majority of the classroom based work to be undertaken in the summer holidays, reducing any disruption to the children. As with the roof project there will be contractors on site over the summer holidays.
We have used some of the Asda cash pot funding raised, to bring a splash of colour to the site with the planting of flowering plants. Ms Barley took children to assist in the planting process both in pots and to spread seeds on 'Barleys bank', our wild flower meadow area near the Aviary. We are committed to the development of the meadow bank and look forward to seeing it continue to develop over the coming years. Establishing a wild meadow flower bank takes time and we're really pleased to see different flowers having established themselves this summer in that area. It is creating a haven for insects, especially bees.
From September 2025, we will finally be a full 2 form entry school. This means we will no longer have a spare classroom for Good Shepherd Club to operate from. To allow staff to set up the room and ensure we have all the resources the new class needs, Good Shepherd Club moved to the Resources room in May half-term. This room is adjacent to Year 2 Starlings. We appreciate the wonderful service they provide for our families and as such, we are working on plans to relocate them more permanently for the Autumn term. This is in part as we acknowledge that collection from the Resources room is not optimal for parents, especially in the winter months. Please bear with us while we finalise plans to make adjustments over the summer holidays. Whilst Good Shepherd Club operate from the Resources room, they've asked that parents call when they are 5 minutes away from collection. Please do that on: 07951879584 the club email is belswains@goodshepherdclubs.co.uk.
This week in Reception, we have been exploring our exciting theme, ‘On the Beach’. We began by discussing what it’s like to visit the seaside—talking about the sights, sounds, and sensations of a day at the beach.
Inspired by our conversations, we decided to create our very own beach in the classroom for everyone to enjoy! The children loved feeling the sand between their toes, exploring the rock pool, smelling the seaweed, and even relaxing in our cosy beach hut. It was a wonderful way to bring our learning to life through imaginative play and sensory experiences.
Year 3 wowed us all with their fantastic class assembly on the Romans! The children brought history to life with their confident performances, creative costumes, and brilliant storytelling. From fierce Roman soldiers to road builders the children shared fascinating facts, sang with enthusiasm, and performed with pride. A huge well done to all of Year 3 for their hard work and to everyone who came along to support—we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did!
Year 3 pupils stepped into the sandals of ancient Romans for a fun-filled Roman Day! Dressed in tunics and togas, the children explored Roman life through hands-on activities. They carefully crafted colourful mosaics inspired by ancient designs and learned about Roman culture, art, and daily life. It was a fantastic day full of creativity, history, and imagination – bringing the past to life!
On Friday 6th June, Year 5 Hawks and Eagles immersed themselves in ancient history as they took part in an exciting Greek workshop. The children arrived in a wonderful array of costumes, dressed as Greek Gods, soldiers, archaeologists and explorers- their enthusiasm and creativity was a joy to see!
Throughout the day, the pupils enjoyed a range of hands-on activities designed to bring the ancient world to life. A drama workshop led by an external facilitator gave them the chance to explore Greek myths and legends through performance. They also created their own 3D Greek vases, showcasing impressive artistic skills and attention to detail.
The day ended with a delicious tasting session of traditional Greek foods. The children thoroughly enjoyed sampling a variety of foods including feta and pitta bread- although the Greek yoghurt proved to be a particular favourite!
Well done to all of Year 5 for your fantastic engagement and positive attitude throughout the day!
