From the virtual desk of Carl G. Tyson III:

On a personal note, and to borrow some powerful words from a wonderful person, one of my personal heroes and fellow Scouter:

⚜️Baden-Powell's Last Message (1941)⚜️

"Here is the hatchet of war, of enmity, of bad feeling, which I now bury in Arrowe," said the Chief, at the same time plunging a hatchet in the midst of a barrel of golden arrows."

"From all corners of the earth," said the Chief as soon as the cheering had subsided "you have journeyed to this great gathering of World Fellowship and Brotherhood. Today I send you out from Arrowe to all the World, bearing my symbol of Peace and Fellowship, each one of you my ambassador bearing my message of Love and Fellowship on the wings of Sacrifice and Service, to the end of the Earth. From now on the Scout symbol of Peace is the Golden Arrow. Carry it fast and far so that all men may know the Brotherhood of Man."

"To THE NORTH—From the Northlands you came at the call of my horn to this great gathering of Fellowship and Brotherhood."

"Today I send you back to your homelands across the great North Seas as my Ambassadors of Peace and Fellowship among the Nations of the World."

"I bid you farewell."

"TO THE SOUTH—From the Southland you came at the call of my horn to this great gathering of Fellowship and Brotherhood."

"Today I send you back to your homes under the Southern Cross as my Ambassadors of Peace and Fellowship among the Nations of the World."

"I bid you farewell."

"TO THE WEST—From the Westlands you came at the call of my horn to this great gathering of Fellowship and Brotherhood."

"Today I send you back to your homes in the Great Westlands to the Pacific and beyond as my Ambassadors of Peace and Fellowship among the Nations of the World."

"I bid you farewell."

"TO THE EAST—From the Eastlands you came at the call of my horn to this great gathering of Fellowship and Brotherhood."

"Today I send you back to your homes under the Starry Skies and Burning Suns to your people of the thousand years, bearing my symbol of Peace and Fellowship to the Nations of the Earth, pledging you to keep my trust."

"I bid you farewell."

Happiness is not mere pleasure, not the outcome of wealth. It is the result of active work rather than passive enjoyment of pleasure.

How to be happy though rich or poor (1930)

I have gone home (or "Going home") — the Boy Scout trail sign "☉" on his tombstone in a tiny cemetery of Nyeri, Kenya.

⚜️27 November, 2018⚜️

⚜️After much personal unrest, I have decided to resign all my positions from the Cannon District and the Central NC Council. This was a very hard tearful decision as I have been a Scouter for almost 40 years around here, as a new Cub Scout in pack 540 until today. Scouting has become my identity. I still love Scouting and always will. Because of some recent decisions and discussions by board members it has been made very evident to me that I must focus my Scouting endeavors elsewhere. I hope that the local focus can return to the Scouts & families that we serve and not so much the money, although that is important, it's not everything. There are many "silent" and very dedicated adult Scouters that deserve our support and recognition. Please seek after them and love them as our beloved Scouting movement can not move forward without them. All Scouters, both youth and adults, deserve our best as we learn in Cub Scouts. My decision for this change was was based on this and other factors. I desire to be effective and helpful. This has been probably the most difficult decision I have ever had to make.... Don't worry, I ain't giving up Scouting all together though...

⚜️As most of you probably know, I travel to and from South America from time to time. After I decided to make this change in my Scouting career I began to seek out Scouting endeavors elsewhere, and I found something that excites me, where can hopefully make a positive impact through continuing Scouting service... At the close of rechartering in December 2018 my Scouting membership and service will transfer from the Central NC Council to the National Area Capital Council (the Washington, DC area). From there, I will continue to serve in The Boy Scouts of America by serving units from all over South and Central America as a type of "virtual" Unit Commissioner, training, and other endeavors. One of these Scouting endeavors that I am excited to be involved in is The South America Scouting Jam Cam 2020! Click Here for more info. If you can attend, stop by and say hi. I will also be doing things as a member of the Scouts of Brasil! Eu amo o Escotismo, em todo lugar!

⚜️Even though there have been some disappointments here, I desire to leave on a positive note and burry any hatchets and wish everyone well. I have truly loved serving Scouting here in what is now known as the Cannon District and the Central NC Council. I have seen many highs and lows during my years of Scouting, all of which have served as learning tools that I desire to carry on to other areas of the Scouting world. I love you all and let's stay in touch. WhatsApp will be the best way to communicate with me. I will be around for a short while longer but not for too much time. I have decided to move full-time to Brasil near the São Paulo area. I am excited and for this new endeavor. So once again I will live, for a time, in Brasil... and continue to serve this wonderful movement we call Scouting..... A Scout Is Thankful, and I am....

⚜️Scouting is Wonderful... Thank you Our Heavenly Father, thank you Baden Powell, and thank you the rest of you my wonderful Scouting family.... y'all are great! Let's stay in touch...
