About Me
My name is Kayla Petty and I am going to be your school counselor at Big Island Elementary School! I recently graduated with my Master’s in School Counseling from Liberty University. I am also certified as a Trauma and Crisis Management Specialist from the American School Counseling Association. This is my first year as a school counselor! I am originally from Connecticut, but I have lived in Lynchburg for the past 10 years. I am married to my high school sweetheart and we have a little girl who is 18 months old.
My Role:
My passion as the school counselor is to support the academic, career, and social/emotional needs of students so they can have success within the school and in all areas of life. I plan to check in with the students routinely and start small group counseling when it is safe to do so. I will also be working with classroom teachers to provide social-emotional learning lessons to support the mental health needs of the students. My office is located within the library and my door is always open for students to come and talk, take a break, color, play a game, and receive a listening ear.

Sport: Running & Yoga
Hobbies: Reading books and baking desserts
Food: Pasta and pizza
Candy: Hershey’s Cookies & Cream
Movie: Beauty & the Beast
Drink: Coffee
