Kodu Moon Rover Mission – CTE-Aligned Project Objective

Design and build an interactive game in Kodu that simulates a Moon exploration mission. Create a lunar environment that accurately represents the Moon’s surface using appropriate terrain features such as craters, rocks, and uneven ground. Use a rover as the main, player-controlled object.

Program the rover to complete a mission related to exploration, data collection, or problem-solving, similar to real-world lunar engineering challenges. The mission must include a clear goal, rules for success, and a way for the player to know when the mission is completed.

Throughout the project, apply the engineering design process by planning your game, building and programming the rover, testing gameplay, identifying problems, and making improvements. Your final game should be fully playable, demonstrate logical programming, and show how technology and engineering are used to solve real-world challenges.

List of Lunar Features

1. Moon Environment Design (20 points)

• 18–20 pts: Environment clearly resembles the Moon with strong details (craters, rocks, terrain, obstacles).

• 14–17 pts: Environment looks like the Moon and fits the theme.

• 8–13 pts: Some lunar features present, but the environment is incomplete or inconsistent.

• 0–7 pts: Environment does not resemble the Moon.
  
  

2. Use of Rover (20 points)

• 18–20 pts: Rover is well-programmed and used in multiple meaningful ways.

• 14–17 pts: Rover is present and functions correctly.

• 8–13 pts: Rover is present but has limited movement or functionality.

• 0–7 pts: Rover is missing or does not work.
  
  

3. Mission / Objective (20 points)

• 18–20 pts: Mission is creative, clearly explained, and has a clear win condition.

• 14–17 pts: Mission is clear and can be completed.

• 8–13 pts: Mission is vague, confusing, or incomplete.

• 0–7 pts: No clear mission or objective.
  
  

4. Programming & Controls (20 points)

• 18–20 pts: Controls and programming are logical, reliable, and work smoothly.

• 14–17 pts: Controls work with only minor issues.

• 8–13 pts: Controls work inconsistently or contain noticeable errors.

• 0–7 pts: Controls do not work.
  
  

5. Game Playability & Completion (20 points)

• 18–20 pts: Game is fully playable from start to finish with no major issues.

• 14–17 pts: Game is playable with minor problems.

• 8–13 pts: Game is only partially playable.

• 0–7 pts: Game cannot be completed or played as intended.
