Becker High School is a dynamic, student-centered comprehensive high school serving approximately 870 students in grades 9–12. Our dedicated and talented staff provides a challenging, high-quality curriculum grounded in the principles of rigor, relevance, and strong relationships. Beyond the classroom, students are encouraged to explore a wide range of extracurricular and co-curricular opportunities that support personal growth and school engagement.
High School Program Description
Becker High School operates on a block schedule, with students taking five classes each trimester. To graduate, students must meet all state requirements and earn a minimum of 30 credits. A wide range of academic departments—including Art, Business, English, Family and Consumer Science, Industrial Technology, Mathematics, Music (Vocal and Instrumental), Physical Education, Science, Social Studies, Special Education, and World Languages—allows students to explore their interests and develop diverse skill sets. In addition to these traditional offerings, BHS supports student success through BASE (Becker Alternative School of Excellence), an alternative learning program designed to provide personalized pathways for students within the high school setting.
9th Grade First Day
Becker High School welcomes each school year with a day set aside just for ninth graders. This special start helps students ease into high school, get to know the building, and make connections before upperclassmen arrive.
Throughout the day, freshmen review the student handbook, meet their advisory groups, and learn about the many activities, clubs, and athletics available. They also practice navigating their schedules and classrooms, giving them confidence for the year ahead.
By the end of the day, ninth graders leave feeling prepared, connected, and ready to begin their high school journey.
Advisory
Each day, students participate in advisory, a dedicated time designed to support both academic and personal growth. During advisory, students have access to their classroom teachers for intervention, enrichment, extra homework support, and relationship building.
Once a week, advisory also includes a short lesson focused on student life—covering topics such as social-emotional learning, teamwork, and community building. These experiences help students strengthen connections, develop important life skills, and grow as learners both inside and outside the classroom.
Post-Secondary Opportunities
In addition to earning a high school diploma, juniors and seniors who meet certain academic requirements have several opportunities to begin working toward a post-secondary degree by taking a variety of courses offered at Becker High School through the SCSU Senior to Sophomore Program. Beyond this program, Becker High School has also partnered with St. Cloud Technical College to offer Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs. Additionally, students can enroll in two Advanced Placement (AP) Calculus courses, which may allow them to earn college credit.
As well as the many academic choices for students, Becker High School has a counseling department that offers individual counseling to address the needs of the students and provides resources to parents. The counseling department has information on career planning, conducts workshops on financial aid and after high school planning, and schedules representatives from many universities, colleges, and military branches to meet with students. A career center is also available for students to explore their interests. Students are encouraged to get to know their counselor early in their high school career.
If you have any questions about the BHS academic program, please contact the high school office or the counseling department at (763) 261-4501. We want all of our students to be academically challenged, see the relevance in their learning, and establish meaningful relationships during their tenure at Becker High School.
