My Accomplishments During My Time In JAGS
The Jackson Academy for Global Studies (JAGS), is an amazing honors program in my school which entails numerous classes and experiences focused on teaching students global competence. It does this through an education built around its 4 main pillars: Recognizing Perspectives, Taking Action, Communicating Ideas, and Investigating the World.
Why did I join JAGS?
When I applied to the JAGS program in middle school, my rational was straightforward: "I get to travel the world and it'll look good for colleges? Sure, I'm in." Despite this, the reason I chose to continue in the program each year is because of how I saw myself changing. The way I interacted with others, the way I viewed the world, and my work ethic; I saw all of these things changing thanks to JAGS, and that is why I continued, and that's why I would join again.

Greetings! I'm Edward Bentler, currently a senior at Jackson Local High School in Ohio, and the one wearing the white jacket in the photo. Some of my hobbies and activities outside of JAGS include programming, origami, and Academic Challenge, which I'm varsity team captain of at my school.
The Four Pillars of JAGS

The pillar of investigating the world is about cultivating a curiosity and drive to learn and understand the world both immediately around us and the world outside of our own country.
The pillar of recognizing perspectives is about learning to interact with and understand others who hold different beliefs or come from a different background, be it social, economic, religious, etc.
The pillar of communicating ideas is about learning how to communicate with others, be it as equal members of a group, or as a leader among your peers. It's about not only learning how to convey information effectively, but also gaining the confidence to do so.
The pillar of taking action is about taking actions and working to better the community and world around you. Most often, this is done through community service and volunteer work, though many JAGS project also focused on helping our community.
