WELDING - LEVEL 1 (MIG/STICK)

This beginner-level course introduces students to the fundamentals of Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), also known as Stick Welding,  MIG (Metal Inert Gas) welding, and Oxygen/Acetylene Cutting (OAC). Students will gain foundational knowledge and hands-on skills necessary for a career in the welding field.

Course Highlights:

• SMAW Welding: Learn the principles and characteristics of SMAW, including safe setup and operation of welding power sources and equipment.

• MIG Welding (Metal Inert Gas): Learn to MIG welding, also known as gas metal arc welding (GMAW), the process that uses a continuous wire electrode and a shielding gas to join metal pieces

• Oxygen/Acetylene Cutting (OAC): Explore the proper techniques for cutting with oxygen/acetylene equipment and gain an introduction to Plasma Cutting (PAC).

• Safety Practices: Emphasis on welding safety, including setup procedures and proper handling of equipment.

• Key Topics:

1. Basic metallurgy

2. Electrode selection and maintenance

3. Welding on limited thickness plates, with the potential to progress to all positions

Course Structure:

• Theory Component: 30% of the course is dedicated to theoretical instruction.

• Practical Application: Hands-on training to develop essential skills for entry-level welding positions.

Additional Requirements:

• Students must bring an auto-darkening welding helmet and all necessary safety equipment. Additional details will be provided by the instructor on the first night of class.
