AVID III

Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) is an academic elective course that prepares students for college readiness and success.  Each week, students receive instruction utilizing a rigorous college preparatory curriculum, tutor‐facilitated study groups, motivational activities and academic success skills. In AVID, students participate in activities that incorporate strategies focused on Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization and Reading (WICOR) to support their academic growth.  Participating in AVID is an honor and privilege, therefore certain requirements must be met in order to remain in the program.

Pre-AP World History

CollegeBoard developed Pre-AP classes that are designed to support students and help them focus on the most relevant concepts and skills. Students have frequent opportunities to engage deeply with texts, sources, and data as well as compelling higher-order questions and problems. Pre-AP World History and Geography focuses deeply on the concepts and skills that have maximum value for high school, college, careers, and civic life. Primary and secondary sources take the center stage in the classroom, and students use the tools of the historian and geographer to examine questions and build arguments. This class moves from geography and world regions to developments in world history from 1450 CE through the present.

Economics & Personal Finance

Economics and Personal Finance (EPF) will provide students the opportunity to engage in intensive application of the skills, concepts, processes, and knowledge gained in previous social studies courses and prepare them to be college, career, and civic ready. This class supports the development of students who understand economic decisions, use money wisely, understand education and career choices, and understand how to be financially responsible citizens. The EPF course is intended to be a study of economics, personal finance, income and education, money management, critical consumerism, and financial planning.
