SBHS Honor Code:
Ethics, honesty, and integrity are integral components of the academic process. Students are expected to be honest & ethical at all times in their pursuit of academic goals in accordance with BCS District Policy 4310.
These Components are:
● Cheating - The actual giving or receiving of any unauthorized assistance or the actual giving or unfair advantage on any form of academic work.
● Plagiarism - The copy of the language, structure, idea and/or thought of another represented as one’s own work.
● Falsification - The verbal/written statement of untruth.
● Violation of Copyright Laws - Unauthorized reproduction, duplication and/or use of electronic work, computer software, or other copyrighted material.
● Forgery - A written misrepresentation, as in a signature.
Any student found in violation of the policy will be subject to the following consequences:
First Offense - The student receives a zero and is not allowed to make up the work. A parent or guardian is contacted, and the teacher documents the offense and parent contact within the school’s internal system. It is not part of the student’s permanent record.
Second Offense - The student receives a zero and is not allowed to make up the work. A parent or guardian is contacted, and the teacher documents the offense in Educator Handbook. An administrator follows up with parent contact and the offense becomes part of the student’s transcript.
Dress Code:
BCS Policy 4316 -
The Brunswick County Board of Education's guiding principles for the student dress code are similar to those experienced and expected in the workplace: attire that furthers health and safety of students and staff, enables the educational process, and facilitates the operations of the school. Parents are asked to partner with the school district to monitor student attire to help adhere to the guiding principles set forth in the policy. The dress and personal appearance of students greatly affect their academic performance and their interaction with other students. The Board requests that parents outfit their children in clothing that is conducive to learning. The Board prohibits any appearance or clothing that does the following:
1. violates a reasonable dress code adopted and publicized by the school;
2. is substantially disruptive;
3. is provocative or obscene; or
4. endangers the health or safety of the student or others.
PROHIBITED ITEMS AND STYLES OF WEAR:
Age-Inappropriate Dress – Clothing must be age appropriate.
Provocative Dress – Clothing that is disruptive to the teaching-learning process or is indecent, vulgar, or obscene.
Overly Revealing Dress – Shorts, skirts or dresses shorter than four inches above the knee, tank tops, bare backs or spaghetti straps, shirts or blouses that do not cover the waist and midriff, clothing made of sheer or mesh material or that has excessive holes, or visible undergarments
Headgear – Including but not limited to hats, earmuffs, sweatbands, “do-rags,” hoodies or sunglasses worn inside the school buildings.
Bandanas – May not be worn inside the school building or on campus.
Inappropriate Illustrations – Clothing which promotes alcoholic beverages, tobacco, the use of controlled substances, is of a sexual nature, depicts violence, is racist or harassing based on cultural or ethnic differences.
Improper Footwear – Proper footwear is required for the safety and proper function of the activities or events engaged in at any given time by participating students.
Improperly Worn Clothing – Inside-out, backwards, unfastened, or otherwise worn in a fashion other than that for which the clothing was designed to be worn (examples include, for instance, unbuttoned bib overalls, unbuckled belts, etc.).
Gang-Related Clothing or Insignia – Students are not permitted to wear, possess, use, distribute, display or sell any clothing, jewelry, emblem, badge, symbol, sign or other items with intent to convey membership or affiliation with a gang.
Sags – No sagging pants allowed; pants cannot be worn with the waistband below the hipbone.
Electronic Devices:
Per BCS Policy 4311 Electronic Devices are not to be activated, used, displayed, or visible during the instructional day in any part of the school campus.
● For the purposes of this policy, Electronic Devices at South Brunswick High School refers to (but is not limited to) cell phones, ear phones, earbuds, and airpods.
● The instructional day is 7:35 am and ends at 2:40 pm, which includes transition times between classes.
● Authorized use of electronic devices will be in the cafeteria during the student’s assigned lunch time.
During class time students will be required to place their phones in the classroom cell-phone holder
Tardy Policy:
Students are considered Tardy to class if they are not in their assigned classroom ready to learn when the Tardy Bell Rings.
● Student tardiness is monitored on a weekly basis and they are cumulative for all classes.
