Beginning Dance is perfect for all students interested in dance. No experience is required. Dancers will learn fundamental technique and skills. Dancers that have previous dance experience will use this class to refine the basics while improving their fundamental skill set. Students will learn two dances to perform at Odell Williamson Auditorium at the end of the semester.
Intermediate Dance is for dancers that have already taken Beginning Dance. In intermediate dance, dancers will continue to refine technique and build upon previous skill set. Students will learn two dances to perform at Odell Williamson Auditorium at the end of the semester.
Proficient/Advanced Dance is an honors level dance class for dancers that have completed Beginning and Intermediate dance and have successfully auditioned to be in the advanced placement classes. Dancers in Proficient/Advanced Dance will continue to refine technique and build upon previous skill set. In Proficient/Advanced Dance there is also an emphasis on choreography. Students will not only learn a dance to perform at Odell Williamson, they will also create their own choreography to perform at the end of the semester.
Mrs. Pittman is from Southport, North Carolina. After graduating from South Brunswick High School she move to Greenville, NC to attend East Carolina University. While at ECU, she earned her BFA in Dance Education. After graduating, she returned to Brunswick County to teach dance at West Brunswick High School. She lives in the Southport area with her husband, daughter and son. Mrs. Pittman has been teaching at West for over 15 years.
