Please see below for all the wonderful happenings in our classroom!
Our 8th grade students have been immeresed in their life's Blueprint projects. There have been great converstaions and critial thinking about future, career, goals, and values. As we wrap up the unit, students will present their projects in class, giving them real- world presentation experiences.
Next, we will dive into a Think Law activity next week where we become lawyers and delineate and ealuate the argument and specific claims in a text. Students will use their critical thinking skills to consider all evidence, facts, information, and perspectives to make a claim.
Students will be receiving the Quartly Newsletter and 9 week evaluation next week.
7th Grade AIG News
Our 7th grade students wrapped up their time capsule unit and have jumped into our first STEM challenge, "Candy Spill". Students are working with teams to collaborate effectively on solving real world problems. We are excited to try out our "inventions" to see if we creativly solved the problem successfully.
Parents/Guardians, we ask that you write a letter to your FUTURE student. You can write your hopes, dreams, wishes, etc and seal your letter in an evelope and send in with your child. Those letters will be placed in their personal time capsule until the end of their 8th grade career. Letters from multiple family members are welecome! Please send those in!

AIG at North Buncombe Middle School
Welcome to an exciting 2025-2026 School Year! My name is Cynthia Roop and I am the new AIG specialist for NBMS. I have been an educator for over 27 years in a K-12 and College setting. I have most recently served as the Director of Education for the Asheville Symphony where we created and provided enrichment opportunities for students across Western North Carolina. I am honored to be back in the classroom and look forward to a fabulous year at NBMS. I am so happy to have your child a part of my class! Differentiated curriculum and instruction are provided by the classroom teachers and the AIG Specialist. Both the core classes & the enrichment pull-out class, provide engaging opportunities for critical thinking and problem solving that elevate our students. We all collaborate to challenge and meet the needs of advanced learners.

Enrichment Class
Students identified as gifted, are pulled once a week during their social studies block for enrichment class with Ms. Roop. My class provides a valuable layer of differentiation and challenging opportunities that promote critical thinking, creativity, and problem solving. Students will not have a grade on the report card, but the risk free environment helps students develop initiative, perseverance, and a growth mindset. Every 9-weeks a progress/activities report that reflects the class content
critical thinking
creativity
problem solving
Grade Level Class Differentiation:
AIG students receive whole class differentiation in their grade level classes, which is the primary tier for advanced learning, enrichment, and extensions. Advanced learning strategies & activities implemented throughout the year in Math and ELA classes are outlined in a differentiation document that will go home with the last report card.
