Thank you for taking the time to visit my classroom website! My name is Holly Lugo and I am one of the EC teachers at Owen High. This year, I will also be taking on the role of EC Department Chair. I am married and have a six-year-old daughter and a three-year-old son. I love animals! We have two dogs (Rocky and Josie), a pot bellied pig (Porkchop), a ball python (Marley), and an aquarium. In the warmer months, I enjoy doing anything outdoors - mostly hiking, camping, and swimming in local waterfalls. In the winter, I love to snowboard and play in the snow (when we are lucky enough to get some). I also love to read (Harry Potter is my favorite!) and spend time with my family!
I am so excited that I get to teach at Owen High! This is my third year as a high school EC teacher and will be my first year as the department chair. I spent 3 years as an EC teacher at Black Mountain Elementary before transitioning to teaching high school during the 19-20 school year. I have been a part of the Owen district since 2010, when I began working at Owen High School as a custodian. In 2012, I became the Media Assistant. It was at Owen High that I discovered my interest in working with students with special needs. I began taking courses at AB Tech and soon transferred to Mars Hill University, where I studied Integrated Education (Elementary Education and Special Education). I completed my student teaching at Black Mountain Primary in April of 2016 and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and Special Education in May 2016. I could not be more happy and proud to continue to be a part of this amazing community. Teaching is my passion and I feel like teaching in the Owen district is as good as it gets! I truly love working with my students and helping them grow to their fullest potential, and I appreciate the opportunity to work with them, as they help shape me as an educator.
Please feel free to call or email me with any questions or concerns you may have regarding your child.
