Welcome to Johnston!

My name is Melinda and I am thrilled to continue as the Title 1 Reading Specialist at JES. I have been in this position since 2022 and have been teaching since 2015. I am proud to teach and get to know your child(ren). Thank you for the opportunity to be your child's reading intervention teacher. 

Since a young age, I always dreamed of being a teacher. I grew up in Reidsville, North Carolina and graduated from UNC Wilmington in 2015 with my bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. In 2022, I earned my master's degree in Reading Education from UNC Charlotte. 

Before becoming a reading specialist, I taught first and second grade. My family moved to Asheville in 2019. With my husband and young daughter, I enjoy time outdoors, farmer's markets, gardening and trying new restaurants. 

I believe that literacy is a human right and I take pride in the work that I do every day teaching our Mighty Bears. Together, let's make this a wonderful year!
