Welcome to the Deaf Education Program at Bell Elementary
My name is Megan Barker and I am the lead teacher of Deaf and Hard of Hearing children for BCS. I am an Asheville native and went through the Asheville City School system. I attended college at University of North Carolina at Greensboro where I obtained my degree in Deaf Education K-12. I began my teaching career in 2007 with a school system on the eastern part of North Carolina for 8 years as an itinerant teacher of Deaf/HH preschoolers. During that time, I obtained my PreK/K add on license through the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. In 2015, I moved back to Asheville. I worked for several years as a NC-PreK teacher then became a Service Coordinator for the Children's Developmental Services Agency (CDSA). In 2022, I returned to teaching as an itinerant teacher of Deaf/HH for middle and high school students. In 2024, I came to Bell Elementary as the lead teacher of Deaf/HH for Pre-K and elementary students.
