Mary Ann Athens in NYC with Soundsuits subway mosaics
My name is Mary Ann Athens and I am excited to teach art at North Buncombe Elementary School!
The link for NBES Artsonia page is here, and all students in Grades K-4 will have an online art gallery for their family to view and optionally order products with their student's artwork if they like. Artsonia benefits the NBES Visual Art program so that we can purchase additional art supplies for student use.
I have taught Visual Art for many years in North Carolina public schools, and hold a Master's Degree in Art Education as well as National Board Certification. I grew up in Atlanta, Georgia and attended Agnes Scott College, James Madison University and Western Carolina University. After teaching art at Weaverville Elementary/Primary Schools, Claxton and Evergreen, I look forward to sharing my art expertise and art lessons in clay, drawing, painting, printmaking and mixed media with the young student artists at NBES.
My husband and I live in Asheville, and both of our children are now young adults. When I'm not teaching art, I love to distance swim in lakes, read great books and sing along with our musical family.
