I have been a public school educator for 27 years. I began my career in Florida where I taught 3rd grade and 6th grade. In 2002, my family moved to Asheville, NC where I spent 16 years serving Asheville City Schools in a variety of capacities including teaching 5th grade, teaching K-5 as an AIG specialist, and then becoming an assistant principal. In August, 2020, my husband and I became empty nesters, and in November of 2022, we downsized and bought land in Mars Hill, NC. After relocating to our new home, I spent two years teaching at Mars Hill Elementary School. I joined the BCS AIG Department for the 2023-24 school year and look forward to serving in this role for the remainder of my career.
Over the course of my career, I've earned a master's degree, National Board certification, AIG licensure, and a degree in school leadership. I was recognized as the Asheville City Schools 2020 Teacher of the Year. I have served on numerous committees and have devoted a significant amount of time to the work of ensuring educational equity. I have offered professional development at the school, district, state, and national level. In the summer of 2020, I was hired by NCDPI to write state curriculum offered through the AIG department. I was selected for the Go Global NC Program and traveled to the Netherlands with teachers from across the state during the summer of 2025. I love using the knowledge I've gained through all these experiences to serve the students and staff of Buncombe County Schools, and I look forward to continuing my own growth as an educator by embracing new opportunities to learn each year.
